Calgary Sign Bylaws

Calgary Sign Bylaws

  • 4×4’ signs or smaller on private property do not require a permit
    • Separation distance of 75m between signs
  • 4×8’ or larger signs are required to be placed on a city marker. If a market needs to be created, there will be an additional one time fee
  • Non-profits are eligible to place signs on public land
  • Maximum number of signs per property
    • 75m or less frontage allows for 1 sign
    • 75 – 200m frontage allows for 2 signs
    • 200m or greater frontage allows for 3 signs

Fort Saskatchewan Sign ByLaw

  • A valid permit is required to place a portable sign. Permission of the property owner must be obtained.
  • Must be 1.5m from property line, 3m from site access & 5m from a corner intersection
  • Cannot be illuminated (per city discretion)
  • Separation distance of 10m or 50m between signs. Site dependent.

Leduc Sign Bylaw

  • Valid permit required, must have landlord approval.
  • No part of the sign may obstruct traffic view;
  • Set back 1.0 m from any property line; and
  • Separation distance of 61 m from another portable sign.

Morinville Sign Bylaw

  • No sign shall be erected, operated, used or maintained in such a way that its position, size, shape, colour, format or illumination obstructs the view of, or maybe confused with a traffic control device or other official sign, or otherwise pose a potential hazard to vehicular or pedestrian traffic.
  • Where possible, signs shall not cover architectural details such as arches, sills, mouldings, cornices and transom windows.
  • Wiring and conduits for electrified signs must be concealed from view.
  • No part of a sign or sign structure may encroach onto or over an adjacent site, road or lane unless a registered agreement between landowners running with the land is obtained.
  • Except as otherwise specified in this Bylaw, the maximum area of any sign shall be 18.0 m² (193.8 sq. ft.).

Sherwood Park Sign Bylaw

  • A valid permit is required
  • Portable signs must be set back from other features:
    • 23m (75.5 ft) from a permanent sign
    • 1m (3.3 ft) from an existing or future curb line
  • Portable signs per site:
    • Two (2) sign, up to 90m frontage
    • Three (3) signs, more than 90m

Spruce Grove Sign Bylaw

  • A valid permit is required to place a portable sign
  • 1 temporary sign (portable, a-frame, banners or billboards) is allowed for every 90m of street frontage
  • Permits can be issued for a period not exceeding one year
  • Must not obstruct views of traffic

St. Albert Sign Bylaw

  • No sign shall be constructed or placed in such a way that it is confused with, obstruct or detract any form of traffic control or any other municipal devices.
  • No sign shall be constructed or placed in such a way that it interferes with the safe movement of pedestrians, motor vehicles or the sight lines near roadways.
  • No sign shall be placed on/within a vehicle/trailer (unless it is classified as a motor vehicle sign)
  • The company or person responsible for the placement of a sign must get development permit approval before placing a sign on a site.
  • No sign shall contain an intermittent or flashing light source.
  • No sign shall be placed on a road or median, nor placed within 30.5 meters of any intersection, nor placed within 5 meters of a fire hydrant or any emergency equipment.
