St. Albert Portable Sign Bylaws
The City of St. Albert has specific bylaws governing the use of portable signs to ensure they do not interfere with traffic or pedestrian safety and to maintain aesthetic standards within the community. Here are some key points from the St. Albert portable sign bylaws:
All portable signs require a development permit before placement. Permits can be applied for durations of 3, 6, or 12 months, and they can be renewed upon expiration.
In C2, RC, and CC districts, only one sign is allowed for sites with frontages up to 30 meters, and a maximum of two signs for larger sites, but no more than one sign per business.
Portable signs in the ICC district must be separated by at least 400 meters from another portable sign.
Portable signs must be placed on the business property they are advertising for and cannot promote third-party businesses.
Signs must be at least 1.5 meters away from any property line and maintain a 30-meter separation from another portable sign.
Specific districts (C1, C2, CC, RC, ICC, and CIS) allow portable signs as a permitted use, while others (UR, P, PS, and IF) require discretionary approval.
Signs cannot have flashing or intermittent light sources.
Placement on roads, medians, or within 30.5 meters of an intersection, and within 5 meters of a fire hydrant is not allowed.
